CHIC BLING: Nile Rodgers and Dale Vince take diamonds to new heights with sky-made sparkler

What do disco, diamonds and carbon dioxide have in common? According to music legend Nile Rodgers and sustainable jewellery pioneer Skydiamond, quite a lot.

Nile Rodgers has partnered with Skydiamond, creator of the world’s only carbon-negative diamond, to launch the exclusive CHIC x Skydiamond Brooch — a collectible piece of jewellery that transforms atmospheric carbon into a sparkling celebration of music, fashion and sustainability.

Crafted in the UK using only four natural ingredients — sun, wind, rain and carbon dioxide — the made-to-order brooch features more than one carat of Skydiamonds set in recycled silver. Inspired by the unmistakable identity of CHIC, the groundbreaking band Rodgers co-founded with Bernard Edwards in 1976, the piece pays tribute to nearly five decades of musical innovation.

Priced at £1,976 in honour of CHIC’s founding year, the brooch will be available exclusively through NileRodgers.com, with 20 per cent of every sale supporting the We Are Family Foundation.

The collaboration began when green entrepreneur Dale Vince OBE gifted Rodgers a bespoke Skydiamond brooch. Captivated by both the design and the technology behind it, Rodgers decided to make the piece available to fans as part of CHIC’s merchandise collection.

Ahead of the launch, Rodgers visited Skydiamond’s Sky Lab in Gloucestershire to witness the process firsthand, seeing how diamonds can be created from atmospheric carbon dioxide, rainwater and renewable energy.

“Innovations like this are exactly what the planet needs,” said Nile Rodgers. “Skydiamond proved you can create something truly beautiful without destroying the Earth to do it — and that’s a message I’ll wear with pride. If we can make a diamond from the sky, imagine what else we can reimagine when we put creativity to work for the future.”

Dale Vince OBE, founder of Skydiamond, said: “Mining diamonds from the ground is one of the most destructive things we do for luxury. So, we found a way to make diamonds from the sky instead.

“Making diamonds from the sky really is 21st-century alchemy. We turn something we have too much of into something beautiful. These are real diamonds, just without the destruction. The bling without the sting.

“Nile got that straight away. He’s passionate about sustainability and doing things differently. This collaboration is about great music, iconic design and proving that luxury doesn’t have to cost the Earth.”

Unlike conventional lab-grown diamonds, Skydiamond’s production process is powered entirely by renewable energy from sister company Ecotricity and offers full end-to-end traceability. The partnership also reflects shared sustainability values between CHIC merchandising and Skydiamond, with both organisations championing responsible production, recyclable materials and lower environmental impact.

As CHIC prepares for its UK summer tour, fans now have the opportunity to wear a piece of music history — and a glimpse of the future — all in one dazzling brooch.
