The Ship Inn will open its doors on Christmas Day to welcome the local community for festive drinks and a charity Christmas meal, despite facing disruption following recent flooding.
The pub will be open for drinks from 12:00–2:00pm, before hosting a charity Christmas meal from 3:15pm, bringing people together to share the day in the spirit of generosity and community. The meal is supporting Marah Trust, a local charity.
Landlord Wesley Birch said: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the kindness shown — not just by those joining us on the day, but also by people asking how they can donate even if they can’t come. That generosity means a huge amount, and every extra pound will make a real difference.”
Local wine merchants Vinotopia Wine have also stepped forward, generously donating enough sparkling wine for guests to enjoy a glass on arrival, helping to raise further funds for the charity.
The event comes during a challenging period for The Ship Inn, which has been hit hard by flooding of the cellar earlier this week. As a result, the pub will need to close temporarily between Christmas and New Year (with the exception of 28 December) to carry out clean-up and recovery work. Updated opening times will be shared once confirmed.
“Our team have worked incredibly hard to keep everything afloat — quite literally,” added Birch. “It’s been a tough year, but moments like this remind us how lucky we are to be part of such a strong and caring community.”
The Ship Inn wishes all customers and supporters a very Merry Christmas and thanks them for their continued support.
