Wotton-under-Edge has been named the happiest place to live in Gloucestershire, according to a new survey conducted by online furniture retailer Furniturebox.
The historic Cotswold town topped a list of 75 locations across the UK, followed by Chipping Campden, Tetbury, Cheltenham, and Stroud.
The survey ranked locations based on the beauty of surroundings and green spaces, quality state schools, affordable housing, and access to pubs, restaurants, independent shops, and cultural attractions. Wotton-under-Edge stood out for its historic charm, vibrant arts scene, strong community spirit, and picturesque setting, offering a peaceful environment with plenty of walking opportunities.
The town is home to Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School (KLB), recognised for its high academic standards and strong record, placing it among the top comprehensive schools in South West England. Popular local pubs such as The Star Inn and The Falcon Steakhouse contribute to the town’s welcoming atmosphere.

Furniturebox polled 5,000 people across the UK. A spokesperson said: “Wotton-under-Edge is the happiest place to live in Gloucestershire. The survey shows that the happiest places are not defined by wealth but by the quality of life within them. Most of the locations in the top 75 are not the most affluent in their localities and offer access to affordable housing, making them popular with families.”
