The diversity, community, and inclusivity at the heart of the Stroud district is set to be celebrated in a new short film – and community groups are welcome to take part.
“Our District Lives” will create a snapshot of the many and diverse communities of the Stroud district and feature as many different community organisations or groups as possible.
The project is the result of work by the Council’s Community Representation Taskforce which was established following the review of street names, monuments and buildings across the district. The Taskforce is made up of recruited community representatives who have been working together to develop a project which demonstrates and celebrates Stroud district as a welcoming and inclusive place to live, work and visit.
“If you are part of a group, society or club that meets in the Stroud district, we would love you to be involved,” said Community Representation Taskforce Chair, Sabrina Pace-Humphreys. “The video will be a celebration of community groups which showcase the breadth and uniqueness of groups that residents of the Stroud district can join.”
As an added bonus, the final videos will provide community groups with a resource to help promote their group and increase their membership. The film as a whole will be published online and launched with a premiere at Stroud District Council’s Ebley Mill offices before being shown throughout the district.
“We want to find out more about your community group, what makes it unique, and what benefits it brings to its members,” said SDC Leader, Catherine Braun. “The groups should be united by a common interest, meet on a regular basis, and be welcoming and inclusive to all prospective and current members.”
This includes teams, committees, musical groups, community action groups and any other group that meet these criteria. We would especially like to hear from groups giving a voice and presence to those who feel marginalised or underrepresented in all aspects of our communities, interests and areas.
SDC Deputy Leader Natalie Bennett added: “This is a really great opportunity to showcase your group’s work and we’re really excited to see all the diverse submissions and find out more about all of the community groups in our district.”
The deadline for applications is Friday, 15th March.
