Runners from Stroud District Athletics Club embraced the spirit of community with an epic litter pick.
Starting at Stroud Cricket Club, three groups set off in different directions and collected eleven large bags of rubbish.
A club spokesperson said: “Although the event coincided with a few local races, limiting our numbers slightly, those who attended had a fantastic time scouring the local footpaths and despite the less-than-ideal weather, the enthusiasm and teamwork made the effort both rewarding and enjoyable.
“Upon returning to the cricket club, we were treated to a delightful surprise—an array of cakes baked by our junior members. Many thanks to all who took part and baked. The competition was fierce, but after much deliberation, the winners were announced: Sakura Charlwood took the prize for Best Presented Cake, while Charlotte Bell won for Best Tasting Cake.
“Special appreciation goes to Carol Wakefield for her excellent organisation and Charlotte Bell for coordinating the junior efforts.
“A huge thank you to Stroud District Council for providing the necessary equipment, Stroud Cricket Club for hosting us, and of course, to all the club members who took part.
“Given the success of this event, we will certainly be organising another litter pick later in the year, alongside other club activities. Keep an eye out for upcoming dates—we’d love to see even more of you there next time.”
