There has been a lot of activity at the Nympsfield Community Pub, formerly known as The Rose and Crown. There will be a fundraising pop-in event at the pub on Saturday 20th December as the community group prepares to take ownership.
In a recent newsletter the team stated: “Our purchase of the pub is edging towards completion. We’ve reviewed the sales contract and transfer documents, and searches are nearing completion. The owner is as eager as we are to finalise the sale before the Christmas break. Look out for an announcement in the coming weeks!
“Our planning and listed building consent application has been published on Stroud District Council’s planning portal. If you’d like to comment on the application, please click here.
“We’re in the process of installing a brand-new energy-efficient wood-burning stove in the main fireplace of the front bar. You will be pleased to know that we expect to have the wood burner fully operational in time for the pop-in pub event. The ivy on the south elevation of the pub has been removed, and we received approval from Stroud District Council to remove the trees at the front of the pub and next to the side entrance.

“Following the recent heavy rain, the cellar has remained dry. In preparation for its refit, we’re clearing the cellar of redundant equipment and debris. We’ve already repatriated 39 empty kegs and casks, and the flood-damaged chiller and drinks mixer machines have been removed. We’re currently engaging with cellar specialists to help us develop the specification and layout for the new cellar. The premises licence has been reactivated and will be transferred to Nympsfield Community Pub Limited after our purchase of the pub.
“Our Stroud Funding crowdfunding campaign has taken off brilliantly. At the time of writing, we’ve raised over £7,000 from 124 pledges. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed that Stroud District Council will back our project during the next few weeks and secure a pledge of around £10,000, which would be 50 per cent of our target. If you haven’t already made a pledge, don’t worry – it’s not too late! Simply click here to contribute. The more pledges we receive, the more likely Stroud District Council will support our project.
“We’ve also been in touch with Pub is the Hub to discuss potential grant funding for the community cafe/shop. We’ll be meeting with our local Pub is the Hub representative in early December to explore ideas. More details will be shared soon. We recently met with the National Lottery Heritage Fund’s regional manager regarding grant funding to reroof the pub. Their response was positive, so we are now submitting a new project enquiry which will be followed up by a full application in the New Year after we purchase the pub.
“Our next fundraising event is a Pop-in-Pub on Saturday 20th December 6pm – 11pm. The event will be held in the front and rear bar of the Rose & Crown Inn with carol singing (hopefully a local male choir) and live music. The Cotswold Pizza Co. will be serving wood-fired, stone-baked pizzas again. As always, there will be a wide selection of drinks including different real ales.”
