Council takes action against persistent anti-social behaviour in Paganhill

Stroud District Council has successfully evicted a tenant from a council property in Paganhill, Stroud, following repeated and serious incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The decision follows a pattern of violent and disruptive conduct by the tenant, despite multiple interventions and offers of support from the Council’s housing team.

The repossessed home will now be allocated to a household on the Council’s housing register, helping to meet ongoing local demand for accommodation.

Councillor Gary Luff, Chair of Stroud District Council’s Housing Committee, said: “We are committed to ensuring that our neighbourhoods are safe, supportive places to live. While our housing officers always seek to work with tenants to address challenges and offer support, the Council also has a duty to act when behaviour puts others at risk.

“This decision to seek possession was not taken lightly. It followed repeated incidents and legal proceedings, and only after all reasonable opportunities for engagement and rehabilitation were exhausted. We will continue to prioritise the safety of our communities and take appropriate action where necessary.”

The possession order was granted in August 2025, and the property has now been recovered.

Stroud District Council will continue working closely with local partners, including the police and community organisations, to prevent anti-social behaviour and support residents in maintaining safe, respectful, and resilient neighbourhoods.

Members of the public can report anti-social behaviour online at www.stroud.gov.uk/report-it or by calling 01453 766321.
