Painswick have signed former Gloucestershire all-rounder Benny Howell.
The ambitious WEPL Premier Two Glos/Wilts outfit have put their marker down for the forthcoming season by bringing the 36-year-old all-rounder back to the county.
Howell joined Gloucestershire in 2012 after a spell with Hampshire, and made 277 appearances, scoring 6,701 runs and taking 312 wickets. He left in 2022 to sign a three-year, white-ball only deal at Hampshire. Howell is also registered with Birmingham Phoenix, a franchise 100-ball cricket side.
Painswick chairman Andy Barnard told Stroud Times: “We’re delighted to announce the signing of Benny (Howell) for the 2025 season. Benny will play when his commitments with Hampshire and Birmingham Phoenix allow.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Painswick and I am sure we all look forward to seeing such a special player grace Broadham Fields this season.
“Benny has been impressed with the training facilities, both at Broadham Fields, but also with the links to the indoor 22 Cricket Yards Centre in Gloucester, which has attracted interest from club players and professionals since opening just under 12 months ago.
“The centre is run by two Painswick’s first team players Luke Woolway and Reece Morris, who has worked closely with Benny has managed to convince him to join this season. Benny will add experience with bat and ball to a youthful and attacking Painswick side.”
