Major Labour donor Dale Vince hit the streets of Stroud this afternoon to canvass for parliamentary candidate, Dr Simon Opher.

Stroud Times was invited to join the campaign trail, where green industrialist Mr Vince knocked on doors alongside the parliamentary hopeful.

When asked if he would take up a formal role if Labour win the general election on July 4, the Ecotricity chief and Forest Green owner told Stroud Times: “I would absolutely help if I could in some way, some of the things that I know about green energy and sustainability, the economics of it all, we’ve got some great ideas on tidal lagoons for example, and what GB Energy could do.”

Mr Opher, a Dursley GP, welcomed Vince’s involvement in his campaign, saying: “Dale is clearly a sort of national champion of sustainable energy and it was great to see him out canvassing. There’s a lot of Labour support, and I have noticed that in the last week or so, more people are switching to the Labour side.”

Watch the unabridged video interviews with Dale Vince and Simon Opher now in the footage below, including Vince’s no-holds-barred verdict on Siobhan Baillie’s tenure as MP

Dale Vince previously invited Jeremy Corbyn to Forest Green Rovers, where the former leader of the Labour Party held an election rally alongside David Drew in 2019. However, Tory candidate Siobhan Baillie beat Mr Drew, who represented Stroud between 1997 – 2010 and 2015 – 2019, with a majority of 3,840.
