Dale Vince is calling on Stroud District Council to urgently reconsider its approach to the future of Stroud Lido, arguing that the facility could be made usable this summer at a fraction of the projected cost.
Recent estimates from SDC chiefs have suggested that up to £5 million may be required to restore the Lido. However, Vince and local campaigners believe this figure is excessive and risks delaying public access unnecessarily.
Mr Vince, who runs green energy company Ecotricity, said: “Stroud Council needs to throw our Lido a lifeline. And get real. Stroud’s Lido doesn’t need £5 million quid to be useable – just one hundred thousand could have it open for this summer. A lot of great work has already been done on this by Save Stroud lido. I’m supporting their call for a rethink – a new plan. The Lido can’t possibly, really, so suddenly – need £5m spending on it to be able to be used. We can do better than that. Take a closer look at the alternative plan from www.savestroudlido.org.”
