Dale Vince: without exception the public stands with Palestine and wants the government to do more

Ecotricity and Forest Green owner Dale Vince insists the British public wants the Government to recognise Palestine as a state and take a tougher stance on Israel.

Mr Vince has commissioned a survey that found 52% of Brits believe Israel has breached international law, with 44% demanding a suspension of trade.

Mr Vince, who in a show of solidarity with the people of Gaza is flying a giant Palestinian flag outside the headquarters of his green energy company Ecotricity.

Amid horrifying scenes of what No10 called “unspeakable suffering and starvation” in Gaza, public reaction has hardened with an exclusive poll finding Israel had ‘gone too far’ in the conflict by a margin of ten to one.

The poll unequivocally shows Britons believe the government must take a tougher stance on Israel and be more critical of its ruthless actions.

Amongst those surveyed by Survation, respondents said Palestine should be recognised as a state by a margin of nearly four to one, with only 13 per cent against. Some 52 per cent said Israel had breached international law, with only 19 per cent disagreeing. A majority felt so strongly about Israel’s behaviour that they supported a suspension of trade.

And in a clear message to Sir Keir Starmer about his response so far to the humanitarian crisis those polled said the UK should be more critical of Israel by a margin of nearly five to one. Only 10 per cent of those polled disagreed.

Mr Vince said: “The British public have spoken, and they want recognition of Palestine, and for trade sanctions against Israel.

“The images of starvation, and the daily killings of innocent men, women, and children, have horrified the public, who want the suffering to end and for the government to show no fear in confronting Israel head on over its merciless warmongering.

“Our poll shows Keir Starmer has an absolute mandate from the public to recognise Palestine and sanction Israel – and should immediately act. The public has no doubt Israel is breaching international law. “

Mr Vince said he believed the Prime Minister – who will meet President Trump at his golf course in Turnberry, South Ayrshire later today, was reticent about acting because of Trump’s likely negative reaction to Britain formally recognising Palestine.

Mr Vince added: “The Prime Minister may be concerned about Trump’s view or possible reaction, as many national leaders are, but that shouldn’t deter him from carrying out the will of the British people.

“We asked all the big questions and without exception the public stands with Palestine and wants the government to do more.

“It’s clear that the Labour are out of touch with the public on this issue and by a long way.

Our poll shows Keir Starmer has an absolute mandate from the public to act decisively.

Labour donor Mr Vince pointed out: “And the percentage of the public that support this is far greater than the percentage that voted Labour in the last election.”
