The incident, which involved a Skoda, happened close to the junction with St James Street at around 11.10pm.

Emergency services were called and a 35-year-old man from Gloucester was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol after sustaining serious injuries and where he currently remains.

Barton Street was closed for a number of hours while collision investigators conducted an examination of the scene and a number of witnesses have been spoken to by officers. The road has since reopened.
