Fans of the BBC TV show Detectorists will have the chance to bid on a very special piece of memorabilia next month.

A t-shirt signed by Mackenzie Crook who wrote, directed and starred in the show will be auctioned at Wotton Auction Rooms in Wotton-under-Edge in the next sale on October 3rd.

Detectorists followed the lives of Andy, played by Mackenzie Crook, and Lance (Toby Jones) and their colleagues at the fictional Danebury Metal Detecting Club.

The t-shirt belongs to Karl Monks, one of the founders of the Cotswolds Metal Detecting Club (CMDC) and will raise money for Minchinhampton-based Longfield Hospice, and was signed by Mackenzie whilst he was directing the second series of Channel 4’s The Change in the Forest of Dean in the summer.

Auctioneer and Managing Director at Wotton Auction Rooms, Joseph Trinder said: “All the funds from the sale will go directly to Longfield Hospice. You can bid in-person or online and this t-shirt could be yours. I’ll be leaving a bid!”

CMDC was established in December 2023 by Karl Monks and Jason Benstock and organises group digs for detectorists around the county. So far the group has donated more than £8,000 to charities including Longfield Hospice, Meningitis Now, The Door, and Hope for Tomorrow.
