Shortwood United have been dealt a hammer blow with the departure of kingpin midfielder Lee Bowles and top scorer Luke Soule ruled out for the rest of the season.

Bowles, 23, rejoins promotion-chasing Brimscombe for a second spell following three seasons at the Nailsworth club.

On his exit from Meadowbank, Bowles said: “I would like to think that I helped them get to where they are now and in a better position now than three years ago, but I want to wish everyone at Shortwood the best.”

Bowles is excited to join Brimscombe who are currently fourth in the Hellenic Premier Division, he added: “I want to try and help them get into the play-offs and get promoted.”

Bowles is expected to make his debut for the Lilywhites when Sam Prior’s side travel to Bishop’s Cleeve on Monday.

Meanwhile, Shortwood hot-shot Soule has been ruled out for the remainder of the Hellenic League Division One West season after tearing his hamstring. Soule hit 19 goals in 22 games.

Wood stretched their unbeaten run to five games with a point at high-flying Milton on Saturday. Alex Barrett scoring Shortwood’s goal.
