Double yellow lines punish residents, not football fans

MOST READ

Dear Editor,

I am writing to express my frustration over the double yellow lines recently installed in Forest Green, particularly on Rowan Way.

These were introduced over the summer to prevent match-day parking by football fans. While some of the restrictions make sense, many are excessive.

The real issue has always been a lack of parking for residents, yet these new lines prevent both residents and their visitors from parking on Tuesdays and Saturdays. My daughter Pip and her family live there, and she was issued a parking ticket this past Saturday.

The restrictions feel punitive to the very people they are meant to protect. Even more frustratingly, they apply every Tuesday and Saturday regardless of whether a football match is taking place. It simply doesn’t make sense.

Pip has decided to pay the fine within 14 days, as it is cheaper to do so, but we intend to challenge the restrictions and push for either their removal or the introduction of resident permits.

These measures should support, not penalise, those who live in the area.
