Handed a hammer blow with the loss of top scorer Matty Stevens, Forest Green boss Rob Edwards has told his side to win promotion for the stricken striker.
Stevens faces a prolonged period out after a scan this afternoon revealed an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury.
Speaking to Rovers’ club website, Edwards said: “I ‘ve spoken to him and thanked him for what he’s done this season. Our job is to support him in his recovery and we owe it to him to make sure we get over the line, so he’s playing League One football next year.”
The 24-year-old went off during the League Two leaders’ 1-0 win over Scunthorpe United on Saturday.
Stevens has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season, with 23 coming in the league. The striker, who joined in 2019, extended his contract in January.
