Forest Green have contacted the National League following reports that their manager, Robbie Savage, was subjected to offensive and discriminatory abuse during Saturday’s fixture at Carlisle United’s Brunton Park.
The Football Association (FA) has now asked Carlisle United to provide observations as part of an official investigation.
Forest Green Rovers’ top brass contacted the National League on Monday, reporting that their manager was verbally abused at Carlisle United. Savage told the club website: “As a club we’ve made contact with the league. We’ll follow the process, and then I’m sure the club will make a further announcement in due course.”
In response, Carlisle United issued the following statement: “The Club is fully cooperating with the FA and is reviewing all relevant video, audio, and CCTV footage as part of its response. Carlisle United has clear expectations regarding supporter behaviour and takes any incidents that fall short of these standards very seriously.
“Carlisle United promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion, and expects all attendees to show respect toward players, staff, officials, opponents, and fellow fans. While football is a passionate and emotive sport, abusive or discriminatory language and chanting is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated, as outlined in the Club Charter and associated policies.
“Any confirmed instances of unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with in accordance with the Club’s Sanctioning Policy. The Club will not be making any further comment until the FA’s investigation is concluded.”
