Family business SJR Carpets and Flooring is the latest local independent company to set its sights on expansion and join the growing Five Valleys shopping centre.
The team at SJR are currently transforming an empty unit along the upper mall near the King Street entrance at Five Valleys and are planning to open their brand-new studio at the end of March.
SJR Carpets and Flooring currently has a store on Stonehouse High Street and the new Stroud studio will be a second base for the expanding business.
The family business is owned by Paul and Charlene Phillips who work alongside Paul’s sister Tina Phillips and family friend Christina Broadley. Paul and Charlene’s three children also have a hand in the business with thirteen-year-old Sam, nine-year-old Jake, and Ruby, aged four, making up the name SJR.
Paul has been a carpet and flooring fitter for more than 20 years and is now looking forward to expanding his business at Five Valleys bringing a full range of floor coverings including, wood, carpet and LVT.
The new store will supply and fit all styles of flooring, stocking brands which include Cormar, Kingsmead Colonia, Furlong, Valley, Victoria, and Lewis Abbott.
Paul said: “This is a great location for us here in the centre of Stroud and we’re really looking forward to opening later in March. Fashions have really changed over the years with more people going for a hardwood or LVT floor, particularly with downstairs rooms. But we know people still want the personal service that we can offer, and to know they’re dealing with people who have the experience they want.
“If customers do prefer us to bring samples to them, we can of course do that as well, but we’re delighted to be opening our own studio here in town for them to browse and chat to our team.”
Erica Malpass, Centre Manager at Five Valleys, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome Paul, Charlene and team to the centre and to their brand-new place here at Five Valleys. SJR is a great local independent company and its fantastic to have a new business opening in the last remaining unit in the upper mall area.”
Additional retail units and residential space are currently being created in the latest phase of development work at Five Valleys which will be completed in the summer – creating further opportunities for businesses at the centre.
Owned and managed by Dransfield Properties Ltd Five Valleys has undergone a major programme of investment and improvements over the last few years – including the creation of the popular food hall and street food market. As well as a great retail line up the centre is also home to a Vue Cinema and Stroud Bowl.
