England football legend Stuart Pearce has been left ‘truly shocked and utterly heartbroken’ by the tragic death of his 21-year-old son.

Harley Pearce lost control of a tractor on on the A417 Old Birdlip Hill, near Witcombe, Gloucester on Thursday, October 16.

Gloucestershire Police confirmed he died at the scene and said his parents are being supported by specialist officers.

The Pearce family paid tribute to Harley, describing him as a ‘cherished son and devoted brother’.

In a statement released through Gloucestershire Police, Harley’s family said they were “truly shocked and utterly heartbroken” at the loss of their “cherished son and devoted brother.”

“He was a golden boy with an infectious smile, and this shocking tragedy will leave a huge hole in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him,” the statement read.

“With a quiet, understated strength and deep kindness, we are so proud of the young man he had become, exhibiting a wonderful work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit in the farming industry.

He will always be our shining star. Rest in peace, our beautiful son and brother. You will never ever be forgotten.”

The football world has sent messages of support to the Pearce family with Pearce’s former clubs Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Coventry City posting heartfelt thoughts on social media.

The family have asked for privacy as they come to terms with their loss.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said investigations into the incident are ongoing and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
