Stroud Foot Clinic has unveiled a refreshed exterior and green improvements — still putting feet first, now with added eco flair.
After nearly three months behind scaffolding, Stroud Foot Clinic in Thrupp has emerged with a fresh new look and a renewed commitment to sustainability.
Housed in the historic Phoenix Inn building on the A419, the clinic has undergone significant renovations, including a smart new roof, upgraded exterior and eco-friendly enhancements.
A standout feature of the refurbishment is the installation of solar panels, expertly fitted by Ian Ridler Electrical, a key step in the clinic’s commitment to reducing its carbon (ahem…) footprint.

Geoff Boldero, Clinic Director, said: “The aim is for our state-of-the-art equipment, including our advanced foot health tools as well as Shockwave and MLS Laser Therapy for pain and inflammation, and custom orthotic moulding technology, to be powered by clean, renewable energy.
“We’re proud to be investing in the future, in our building, our planet and our community.
“We’ve been here for five years now and with the new roof and green upgrades, we plan to be here for many more.”

Another significant addition is a community defibrillator, now prominently displayed at the front of the building. Located roadside on the busy A419, the device is accessible to anyone in an emergency. The clinic will maintain the defibrillator to ensure it’s always ready when needed.
Geoff added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank our patients and surrounding neighbours for their patience/understanding whilst work was carried out.”
The renovations mark a significant milestone in what has been an extraordinary journey. Opening just three months before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the clinic has not only endured but thrived—growing into a dedicated team of 14, including 7 highly skilled practitioners. Together, they’ve treated 7,347 patients (that’s 14,694 feet!) and earned more than 228 five-star Google reviews along the way.

Phoenix House, dating back to the 1860s, has seen many changes over the decades. A photo from a 1910 renovation shows the building mid-facelift — with some dubious scaffolding and a rather stern-looking man in a bowler hat seemingly in charge. Thankfully, the recent scaffolding met all modern safety standards – and came down this week to much relief.
