Firefighters tackle blaze at historic Woodchester Park

Fire crews were called to the scene of a blaze in woodland at Woodchester Park last night.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene after the woodland and several trees caught fire from an unattended stone circle fire pit.

The blaze took four hours to dampen down and smoke could be seen from as far away as Rodborough Common.

Eyewitness James Castle said fire crews were forced to run several hundred yards of hose from the bridge by the lake towards the fire.

Woodchester Park is a 214.9-hectare site that is owned and managed by the National Trust.
