The football community will unite on Sunday, July 19 for a special memorial match celebrating the life of Shortwood United legend Jason Scrivens.
Affectionately known as “Scrivs”, he served Shortwood United in a variety of roles over many years, including player, manager, director of football and, most recently, committee member. He also previously played for Whitminster and Slimbridge and coach Forest Green at youth level. He was well known as a talented DJ, performing at venues including the Queen Victoria and Kitsch.
The fixture, kicking off at 4pm at Meadowbank, Nailsworth, will see a team of past and present Shortwood United players take on a Forest Green Legends side in what promises to be a memorable afternoon of football and community spirit. The Forest Green side will feature Alex Sykes, Paul Hunt, Matt Coupe, Sam Russell, Stuart Fleetwood, Marc McGregor, Steve Winter and a possible appearance of Rovers’ current first team coach Yan Klukowski.
Former Forest Green goalkeeper Sam Russell, who has helped organise the event, said: “Me and Jase, or DJ Scrivs as I first knew him, became mates after we met, and he helped me through some tough times. I’d like to think I was there for him too.
“He always made people smile and was loved by everyone who knew him. We shared some great times together and stayed in touch throughout my football journey. As I settled in the area, we became even closer.”
More than just a football match, the event has been organised to bring together friends, family, former teammates and supporters to honour Jason’s memory while raising money for charitable causes.
Turnstiles will open at 2pm, with entertainment beginning before kick-off. Fans can enjoy live DJs from 3pm, courtesy of Stroud Love Radio and guests, alongside a BBQ, licensed bar and a large charity raffle featuring football memorabilia, beauty vouchers, food vouchers and many other prizes.
Following the match, supporters are invited to stay and watch the World Cup Final, which will be screened live from 8pm, rounding off what promises to be a fantastic day to remember Jason.
Organisers are encouraging supporters to attend in large numbers and have asked those travelling by car to lift share where possible, as parking at the ground will be limited.
To help organisers plan for the day, attendees are asked to register their interest via the online form:
