Forest Green boss Robbie Savage poised to make first summer signing with arrival of sought-after defender

Forest Green boss Robbie Savage has reportedly secured their first signing of the summer after beating a host of EFL and National League clubs to the signature of highly-rated defender Kyle Ajayi.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, the towering 25-year-old centre-back is set to swap Hemel Hempstead Town for The New Lawn as Savage begins shaping his squad for the new campaign.

Ajayi arrives with a growing reputation as one of non-league football’s standout defenders after captaining Hemel Hempstead to last season’s National League South play-offs. The Tudors narrowly missed out on promotion following a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to Weston-super-Mare.

The left-sided defender also played a key role in Hemel’s memorable FA Cup run, leading his side to a draw against League One outfit Wigan Athletic before eventually losing on penalties.

Since joining Hemel from AFC Dunstable in 2020, Ajayi has developed into a commanding presence at the back, combining physicality, composure and leadership. Last season alone, he made 38 league appearances and scored three goals.
