In a bid to offset the season-ending injury to striker Ricardo Rees, Forest Green Rovers boss Robbie Savage has moved quickly to sign D’Mani Mellor from Macclesfield for an undisclosed fee.
Mellor becomes the fifth player to join Forest Green Rovers from the Silkmen this season, following in the footsteps of Laurent Mendy, Tre Pemberton, Neil Kengni, and Sean Etaluku.
The 25-year-old forward joins from the Silkmen after making 32 National League North appearances and scoring 11 goals during the current campaign.
Mellor came through Manchester United’s academy, representing the club at U18, U19 and U21 levels. He scored seven goals in 13 appearances for the U21S in Premier League 2, making his senior debut for the Red Devils during the 2019/20 season, coming on as a substitute in the Europa League against FC Astana.
Mellor spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Salford City, making three appearances, before joining Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer. During his time with the Chairboys, he made 13 appearances and had loan spells with Rochdale, on two occasions, and Sutton United.
He later joined Gateshead on a short-term deal before signing for Macclesfield in September of the 2024 campaign, where he has enjoyed the most prolific goalscoring spell of his senior career. Scoring 19 times in 39 appearances during the 2024/25 season under current Rovers manager Savage.
Mellor becomes Rovers’ 28th signing of the season.
