Forest Green release statement after bacon sarnie claim

Forest Green have broken their silence on claims a Morecambe fan was booted out of the New Lawn for tucking into a bacon sarnie.

The world’s first fully vegan club, spearheaded by Dale Vince, swept aside the Shrimps 5–0 to book a play-off quarter-final at Boreham Wood on Wednesday.

However, one Shrimps supporter went viral after being ejected from the ground, sparking Baconbuttygate online. Despite Rovers’ fully vegan policy — with no animal products sold in the stadium — fans are still allowed to bring their own food.

The club released a statement on Sunday: “We are aware of a video circulating online following our game against Morecambe yesterday.

“Contrary to social media opinion and wisdom, the ejection was nothing to do with bacon sarnies, more a little ‘over exuberance’ on the last day of the season.

“After repeated warnings, the stewards were left with no choice, and the gentleman was ejected from the stadium.”

Rovers then attached two hashtags reading, ‘Never let the truth get in the way of a good story’, and ‘slow news day’.
