League Two: Salford City 2 Forest Green 2
Forest Green were forced to share the spoils in the proverbial six-pointer as Salford grabbed a last-gasp equaliser from the penalty spot.
In a highly-charged clash at The Peninsula Stadium, Rovers looked to have snatched a victory in Greater Manchester until Ryan Watson scored from the spot on 91 minutes after Callum Jones upended Adrian Mariappa and in the ensuing melee, Mariappa and Ryan Inniss were sent off in a game that saw new Salford boss Carl Robinson red carded and sent to the stands in the first half.
Earlier, former Leeds United striker Matt Smith gave Salford a scintillating fourth-minute start – nodding in an Elliot Watt cross. Rovers netted parity on the cusp of the break – Charlie McCann fizzing home from a Matty Stevens’ assist.
With 20 minutes to go Stevens struck for Rovers after finding the net from a headed Inniss pass for his 50th career goal for Forest Green.
However, Salford’s late penalty leaves Rovers six points a drift of safety in the bottom two.
