Forest Green have signed former Chelsea and Walsall midfielder Jacob Maddox.
Maddox started his career at Bristol City, leaving the club at the age of 14 before joining Chelsea. He had a successful youth career with the Blues and also enjoyed loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Tranmere Rovers.
In August 2020, Maddox joined Portuguese side Vitoria on a permanent deal, before returning to England 12 months later. The Pirelli Stadium was the 24-year-old’s next destination, making 18 appearances for the Brewers during the 21/22 season.
Last season, the Bescot Stadium was his home as he racked up 32 games for Walsall.
The Bristol-born playmaker has represented England at every youth level up to Under-20s. He part of the side that won the Under-19s European Championship in 2017, alongside the likes of Mason Mount, Aaron Ramsdale and Ryan Sessegnon.
After committing his future to FGR, Maddox said: “I’ve known about Forest Green for a while – and I think it’s a great club. I’m just really excited to be a part of it. It’s going to be an exciting season and there’s plenty to look forward to.”
David Horseman added: “Jacob will bring us something a little bit different. He’s a good dribbler, he can carry the ball and he’s good at counter-pressing.
“He has strong pedigree having been at Chelsea and all the England youth teams. He’s got a bit to prove, so he’s hungry and ready to go.”
Director of Football, Allan Steele, said: “We’re very excited to have Jacob joining us. He has been excellent around the group and has already shown his quality as a player, as well as a person. He adds even more competition to that part of the pitch.”
