Former Forest Green loanee Kasey McAteer has continued his sensational start to the season by scoring against Liverpool in Leicester City’s 3-1 Carabao Cup third round defeat at Anfield this evening.
McAteer gave Leicester the lead just three minutes in as the Championship leaders hit their Premier League hosts on the counter-attack, scoring in front of the Kop. Cody Gakpo was the man who got the Reds’ equaliser with a well-taken finish just after half-time. Szoboszlai edged Liverpool ahead after the break before Diogo Jota made it 3-1 to Jürgen Klopp’s side.
McAteer joined Forest Green on loan in January 2022 but was a fringe player during the Nailsworth side’s title-winning side under Rob Edwards.
He scored his first goals this season for the Foxes in a 2-1 win at Rotherham United at the back-end of August, with his 84th minute strike proving decisive, before going on to add to his account in recent consecutive wins away to Southampton and Norwich City.
