From vintage to vibrancy: Five Valleys’ standout year

MOST READ

Welcome to the final instalment of this year’s Five Valleys column, where I’m delighted to reflect on what’s been achieved over the past few months and share a glimpse of what lies ahead.

I joined Five Valleys as Centre Manager back in August, starting on the very same day as our Assistant Centre Manager, Mollie Phillips. From day one we arrived at a time of exciting growth and development, and I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the Stroud community, our traders, and partners for the incredibly warm welcome. I can honestly say I feel like I’ve been part of Five Valleys much longer than six months — and that is entirely down to the friendliness, passion, and spirit of this town.

One of the year’s biggest milestones has undoubtedly been the launch of Home of Vintage. Situated in the former Wilko unit, it has quickly become a vibrant destination, giving independent traders a platform to showcase pre-loved fashion, artisan craftsmanship and unique vintage finds, while celebrating Stroud’s creative heritage. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and it has already become a much-loved addition to the centre.

We’ve also seen further growth in our Food Hall, which has expanded to welcome three fantastic local traders: Simpsons Fish and Chips, Vinnie’s Mac and Cheese, and The Bap Shack. Their arrival has strengthened our food offering even further, giving visitors even more great reasons to eat, meet and enjoy time here.

Another standout moment has been our first official Five Valleys Christmas Lights Switch-On. Hosted by Broadcaster and Presenter Faye Hatcher, alongside TV motoring presenter and Montpellier Legal COO Nick Ponting, it brought the community together to celebrate the start of the festive season. It was a truly special evening and one we hope will become a much-loved Five Valleys tradition.

As we move into a new year, it’s the perfect time not only to celebrate what we’ve achieved together, but to look ahead with excitement. 2026 is already shaping up to be an incredibly positive year, with more growth, fresh ideas, new tenants joining Home of Vintage, and plenty of opportunities to continue building on the momentum created this year. A number of units are still available, so if you’d like to be part of the journey, please get in touch at vintage@fivevalleysstroud.co.uk – and keep an eye on our social media for updates on new arrivals. We’ll also be welcoming new businesses in the main centre

On behalf of Mollie and myself, thank you once again to our traders, partners, and loyal customers for your continued support. Together, we are working hard to strengthen  Five Valleys and the wider town centre, and we’re looking forward to an exciting year ahead.

Happy New Year.
