An environmentally-friendly Glice rink has been installed at Boho Bakery at Court Farm, Kings Stanley.
Instead of using conventional ice which requires constant electricity to keep it frozen, the rink is made of Glice – synthetic ice. It was built by Standish-based FX Live.
“We’ve got this fantastic Glice rink, so if you look out the back doors of our barn, it kind of feels like you’re in the Alps,” said Pennie Mackenzie, owner of the Boho Bakery.
“Glice is an artificial synthetic ice-skating surface which is fun for people to skate on. You can do ice hockey on it, you can do figure skating on it, and it’s environmentally friendly because it doesn’t require all the power and the energy that you need with real ice,” explained Andrew Carruthers, Operations Director with FX Live.
The company also provides artificial snow for events and works closely with Snow Business, based in Ebley.
The rink will be open over the half-term school holidays: “The ice rink is open to the public from 10am – 3pm on February 11th and 12th and then from 18th – 23rd of February. We also have a Valentine’s Day event this Saturday night running from 6 – 9pm,” added Pennie.
