Gloucestershire Northern Senior League
Berkeley Town 3 Chalford 3
On a dramatic night, league leaders Chalford came from 3-0 down to snatch a point at Berkley Town as goal machine Jack Hughes put a smile on the face of boss Ben Powell.
Prolific Hughes made it 47 goals for the season with a late brace and Luke Benneyworth was also on target for the Robins at Station Road.
Earlier, the Hunters raced into a 3-0 lead, but a monumental comeback saw Benneyworth get Chalford back into the game on 57 minutes.
That man Hughes put Powell’s side right back in the game with a sumptuous finish from the edge of the box with 24 minutes to go and helped himself to a second on 82 minutes, nodding in a James Keylock cross to share the spoils.
With five games to go, Chalford now require seven points to claim the title.
A delighted Powell said: “We started the game well, but Berkeley were very direct and we didn’t deal very well with it and found ourselves 3-0 down with half and hour to go, but the players stood up to a man and on anther night we could have won it, but a 3-1 Adam (Thomas) has made a fantastic save to keep us in it and the boys had a never say die attitude.”
The games come thick and fast with Chalford making the trip to Charfield on Thursday, 6.45pm.
