Gripe of the week: please collect my food waste

MOST READ

Dear Editor,

I’m all for recycling, but I have to admit I’m becoming increasingly frustrated with our refuse collectors in Minchinhampton.

Firstly, they leave the bins untidily, with lids off and scattered on the pavement. I appreciate the hard work they do and they must be under pressure to get the job done, but recently, they’ve been failing to collect my food waste, which means I have to book a place at the tip to dispose of my food leftovers.

I hope the Stroud District Council will rectify this and stop this annoying occurrence.

Name and address supplied

A Stroud District Council spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear of this missed collection – a crew returned today (August 17th). After interrogating our records, we were unable to see any previous reports of missed collections at this address in recent months. Our waste collection partner Ubico empties more than 5.6 million bins a year with a collection accuracy of around 99.99% for quarter one of this year.

“Missed collections should be reported online at www.stroud.gov.uk/environment/bins-rubbish-and-recycling or by calling 01453 766321 – we will be happy to return.”
