A popular pub landlord has paid a heartfelt tribute to Big Ron, the Crown and Sceptre’s beloved dog.

Rodda Thomas announced the passing of his much-loved Big Ron, who has been part of the very fabric of the pub on Horns Road for more than 13 years.

Rodda said: “It is with a heavy heart, that I have two report the passing of Big Ron.

“He had more than 13 years as the pub dog of the Crown and Sceptre, and what a pub dog he was. He had the friendliest temperament, he was tolerant with other dogs, and great with children, particularly children with hot dogs or food.

“He was loved at the pub by staff and customers alike. His back legs went and he was finding the steps and stairs hard work.

“I think the dog show was his last hurrah, winning second best veteran with Holly – and he was happiest wandering around the marquee, sniffing other dogs bottoms and stealing the occasional hotdog from an unsuspecting child.

“But, it proved too much for him and on Monday – his mobility had declined so much to the point when I could not see him suffer any longer. I am devastated, and I cannot imagine the pub without him.

“He was a massive part of all our lives here, and will be very sadly missed.”

Rodda has taken comfort from pub regulars, he added: “Massive thanks for all the kind words and hugs I have received, It just goes to show what a special dog he was.”
