Pub giant Punch Pubs & Co has begun searching for a new tenant at the Bear Inn, after the current management team announced it will leave next month.
Last orders at the popular Bisley pub will be called next month. The outgoing tenants pointed to rising costs as the reason behind their departure. A post on social media from the team at the Bear, said: “Due to increasing cost imposed on us by Punch Pubs & Co, we will be closing the pub on March 9.”

They added: “Thank you to everyone who has supported us during our time at the Bear.”
Dating back to 1766 this Grade II listed building is a firm favourite in the community and one regular told Stroud Times: “This is a pub that’s at the heart of the village and I hope someone can carry it on. We always experienced fantastic service and great food.”
A Punch Pubs & Co spokesperson said: “We are disappointed to see the online statement regarding the Bear Inn at Bisley and would like to confirm that this is inaccurate.
“We are in ongoing communication with the current Publicans as they prepare to leave the Bear Inn, and our aim is to ensure there is as little disruption as possible to our guests and the community throughout this transition.
“The Bear Inn is a fantastic pub, which we will continue to support, ensuring that it continues to thrive at the heart of the village for many years to come.”
