I always had a feeling I’d be back – Christian Doidge on return to Forest Green

New boss Steve Cotterill has made his first signing by landing the signature of a Forest Green legend.

Striker Christian Doidge returns to the New Lawn form Hibernian. The 31-year-old Welshman joined Hibs in the summer of 2019 from Forest Green where he went on to make 148 appearances, in which he scored 41 times for the Scottish side.

Doidge was previously signed by Mark Cooper from Dagenham and in his first stint he became the club’s all-time record scorer with 66 goals in 122 appearances.

The striker created ever lasting memories for Rovers fans in his first spell with the club, with a play-off final goal at Wembley, scoring our first ever EFL goal, and a memorable strike away at local rivals Cheltenham Town which helped keep Forest Green in League Two in our maiden Football League campaign. Now, Doidge is back to make more memories.

After rejoining the club, he said: “I’m delighted to be back. I had such a great time here before and it feels like a fantastic opportunity to come back.

“I always had a feeling I’d be back. I love it here. To come back to a club where I’ve had so many memories, it made so much sense. It’s a fantastic football club and I’ve had my most enjoyable moments here. Hopefully that happens again.”
