Police are increasing patrols across a number of rural communities following reports of the illegal use of off-road motorcycles on public rights of way, farmland and private land.
Officers have received a number of complaints regarding riders using motorcycles on public footpaths, bridleways and agricultural land, causing concern among residents, landowners and those enjoying the countryside.
Reports have also been received of bikes being ridden on private land in Middle Lypiatt, Througham, Catswood, Stancombe and Stanley Downton.
A police spokesperson said: “The illegal use of off-road motorcycles can cause significant damage to the countryside, disturb wildlife and livestock, and create a nuisance for local residents and visitors. It can also pose a risk to other users of footpaths, bridleways and rural routes.”
In response, officers are carrying out targeted patrols in the affected areas and will take robust action where offences are identified.
Riders found using motorcycles illegally may have their vehicles seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 and could face prosecution.
Police are urging members of the public to continue reporting incidents and to provide as much information as possible, including descriptions of riders, motorcycles, locations and times of incidents.
Anyone with information about illegal off-road motorcycle activity is encouraged to contact police via the appropriate reporting channels.
