Improv comedy classes come to Dursley

MOST READ

A new 11-week improv comedy course is coming to Kingshill House in Dursley.

The comedy course will run from May 1 on Thursdays, 1pm-2.30pm.

Led by one of the UK’s most experienced improv teachers and performers, Rebecca MacMillan, the course is suitable for anyone from total beginners to those with a performance background.

The course promises to be a lot of fun, in a friendly and welcoming space for creatives, freelancers, parents or anyone seeking a bit of human connection, a laugh and positive personal challenge on a Thursday.  You don’t need to feel quick, clever, funny or have had any previous experience, and performing is optional.

Rebecca said:  “If you’re yearning to play, to let go of being a responsible adult for a bit, and want to discover your inner comic genius, this is for you. Someone from my Stroud class described it as ‘like skydiving for the imagination’.’’

As well as teaching and performing across the UK for over 20 years, Rebecca has been running a popular improv comedy class on Thursday evenings in Stroud since 2022, and is excited to extend this to Dursley, complementing the other creative offerings at Kingshill House.

If this sparks your curiosity, there will be a taster day at Kingshill House Saturday 29th March, 11:00am-12:30pm. Book here:  https://www.kingshillhouse.org.uk/store/p286/improvcomedy.html

The Stroud Improv group are performing their biggest comedy show to date at Lansdown Hall in Stroud on April 11th at 7:00pm. Following sell-out showcase events, this will be their first fully public show and promises to be a hilarious and entertaining night out to remember. The show is completely unscripted and takes inspiration from Whose Line Is It Anyway, with the audience suggesting prompts and the performers improvising on the spot. A member from Stroud Improv said:  “I hadn’t expected to get so much out of improv, but it’s been my favourite part of every week since I took the nerve-wracking leap and tried it.”

So, whether you want to learn a new skill, get over creative or confidence blocks, or just meet a brilliant bunch of new people and have a laugh, why not come along and try it out? Rebecca looks forward to welcoming you.
