In August 2022, the seeds of a new football venture came to fruition when founder, Dave Frost’s Nailsworth Town FC played its first competitive match in The Stroud and District League.

It soon became apparent that something just a little bit special was happening.

The new players formed a good footballing relationship and performances and results started to be impressive.

In its first season, the team was promoted in second place. They were runners-up in the County Cup and Dave Frost was awarded the Sportsman of the Year in Nailsworth’s annual Town awards.

This summer has seen a revamp of the Club with a totally new team and new managerial and coaching staff. Darren Jones and Dave Frost now share responsibilities for team matters, and Josh Cowell captains the team with authority and no mean skill either.

It takes time for new players to find their feet and when barely a handful of players remained from last season, one may imagine the challenges.  There will be highs and lows in this higher Division, but there is also great positivity. There have been some great victories already and also some disappointing defeats, but there is much skill and endeavour.

Playing in Div 5 (south) means that every game is pretty local and that there are fierce local rivalries and derbies.

And, just with the professional Clubs, there is always the need to strengthen teams with the best players available. So is the same with Nailsworth Town. At the moment there isn’t enough depth in the squad. Often players are playing out of position. The immediate need is for a forward.

If there is anyone who may be interested in playing for Nailsworth Town,  supporting, sponsoring or scoring goals, please contact the Club asap at: nailsworthtown2022@gmail.com or via FB at ‘Nailsworth Town FC’. The Club has much to offer in many ways and it has a positive future.

Matches take place at KGV – KO 2.00pm and there is plenty of easy parking and on site swings for the younger supporters at half-time.

Match reports and photographs and future fixtures appear weekly on the FB site.
