Swindon Town will field a Swindon Town XI rather than their first-team squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Forest Green Rovers after an injury-hit summer forced the club to change its plans.
The League Two side announced the decision following what it described as an “unprecedented number of injuries” during its 2026/27 pre-season campaign.
In a statement, the club said it had been keen for the fixture at Forest Green to go ahead, recognising that many supporters had already bought tickets and made travel arrangements.
However, after two more players picked up injuries in Tuesday night’s match and following discussions with the club’s medical department, Swindon decided not to risk its senior squad ahead of its Carabao Cup first-round tie against Cardiff City on August 8.
The club acknowledged the decision would disappoint some supporters but said protecting its first-team players had to take priority.
