Former Forest Green midfield lynchpin Regan Hendry has joined League Two rivals Tranmere Rovers on a two-year deal.
Hendry,25, signed in the summer of 2021 for Forest Green from Raith Rovers, winning the League Two title in 2021/22 and went on to make 66 appearances, but failed to register an appearance for Rovers’ boss Duncan Ferguson and spent the second-half of the season on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
He clocked 21 League One appearances last season with one goal – a sumptuous strike on the opening day of the season in a 2-1 win over Bristol Rovers.
Manager Ian Dawes told the Tranmere club website: “I’m delighted that Regan has decided to stay with us, especially amid interest from other clubs in both League One and League Two. He’s a technically strong player who has shown his ability to impact the game, something which is borne out by his statistics, which put him amongst the top performing midfielders in the League.
“He knows what it takes to get promoted from League Two, and is relishing the challenge of doing that with us.”
Technical Director Nigel Adkins added: “Regan is a player who is about to come into his prime years and has enormous potential. It is a testament to the set up that we have here that he has chosen to continue his development in this critical phase with us, despite interest from League One.”
Hendry said: “I got a taste of what Tranmere and the fans are about over the last 5 months, and am happy to commit myself to the Club. I’m ambitious and so is the Club, so it wasn’t a difficult decision.”
Luke McGee, Lewis Thomas, Baily Cargill, Jordan Moore-Taylor, Regan Hendry and Ben Stevenson, members of Forest Green’s League Two title-winning side in the 2021/22 season have now gone through the Bolt New Lawn exit door with only Matty Stevens and Dom Bernard still contracted to the club. Meanwhile, star defender Udoka Godwin-Malife has been offered a new contract.
