Forest Green boss Rob Edwards insists it will be a “privilege” to test his managerial acumen against Mansfield boss Nigel Clough.
Boasting six straight wins, Clough brings the in-form Stags to the Fully Charged New Lawn tonight, Tuesday, to face the runaway league leaders who stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games after gaining a point at Northampton Town on Saturday.
Edwards was fulsome in his praise for Clough who in a stellar playing career graced England, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.: “I’ve got a lot of respect for him. He’s had an incredible career and he’s given a lot to football, so it’s a privilege for me to go up against somebody like that.”
Edwards revealed he almost played for Clough when he was loaned out by Wolves, he said: “Before I joined Norwich on loan, I nearly joined Derby and I’d spoken to Nigel, who was the manager, so I could have worked under him, but that never happened, unfortunately. I remember coming off the bench for Norwich against Derby that season, and he had a joke with me as I was coming on and he said; “See, you should have come to us, shouldn’t you? You’re on the bench at Norwich!”.
