In my many decades covering Forest Green managers, from David Hockaday to Rob Edwards, I’ve never met anyone quite like Robbie Savage.
His enthusiasm was infectious. It brought an energy that was impossible to ignore and, after a couple of seasons away from Forest Green while building my own media company, it re-energised me and made me feel something for the club again.
Robbie is a unique human being. He is nothing like any other manager I have covered, and that’s what made his time at Forest Green so fascinating.

When I broke the story of his appointment at Forest Green, he embraced it. I’ve had other managers take an instant dislike to me for doing exactly the same thing, without ever taking the time to get to know me as a person.
Robbie was different.
Whatever people may think of Robbie, I found him to be a decent human being. He is genuine, passionate, emotional and utterly himself and prepared to answer any question aimed at him.
I wish him well at Peterborough United, where he will be rubbing shoulders with larger-than-life characters in chairman Darragh MacAnthony and director of football Barry Fry.
Whatever comes next for Robbie, it will certainly be interesting — because there is nobody quite like him.
