Forest Green have swooped for goalkeeper Ross Doohan from Tranmere Rovers.
The 24-year-old has joined Rovers for an undisclosed fee and becomes our fifth signing of the January transfer window – following Brandon Cooper, Fiachra Pagel, Jordon Garrick and Jamie Robson to The Bolt New Lawn.
Doohan started his career at Celtic, and despite never making a first-team appearance for the Hoops, he had successful loan spells at the likes of Ayr United, Ross County and Dundee United.
Capped 13 times by Scotland Under-21s, Doohan joined Tranmere on loan at the start of the 2021/22 season. He made 30 appearances in League Two last term, keeping 13 clean sheets – including one in a goalless draw at The Bolt New Lawn in September 2021. He also saved a penalty from Josh March when the two sides met at Prenton Park a few months later.
Doohan made his loan at Tranmere into a permanent stay last summer – and he once again made the number one shirt his own at Prenton Park. He has started all 25 of Tranmere’s league games this season, conceding just 22 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets.
Upon joining the Club, the goalkeeper said: “I’m really happy to be here and I’m just glad to get it done.
“I had a meeting with the gaffer and Dan (Connor), the goalie coach, and we spoke about the ambition of the Club. That chat made my decision a lot easier. The chance to step up (a division) and the ambition of the Club were the main selling points.
“I’d say I’m a calm goalkeeper. I like to make saves and I just want to help the team as much as I can.”
Head of Performance & Recruitment, Stevie Grieve, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ross to Forest Green.
“He’ll be a wonderful addition for us with his composure, shot-stopping and dedication.”
