Forest Green’s prolific foray into the January transfer window has seen the League One strugglers sign former Manchester United and Rangers midfielder Charlie McCann for a reported £350.000.
The 20-year-old becomes Rovers’ eighth signing in January, penning a long-term contract at the The Bolt New Lawn after joining the club from Scottish giants Rangers.
The technical midfielder began his career at hometown club Coventry City – before sealing a move to Manchester United at the age of 16.
McCann featured heavily in United’s youth teams for a number of years, before he was snapped up by Rangers in the summer of 2021.
He made eight first-team appearances during his time at the Gers, making his professional debut last February. He made his Scottish Premiership debut in a 2-1 win over Dundee United at Ibrox last term.
The youngster has been capped twice by Northern Ireland Under-21s – and received a senior squad call-up in May.
Head of Performance & Recruitment, Stevie Grieve, added: “We are delighted to welcome Charlie to the club.
“He is an absolutely outstanding talent, who we will work with to develop for the future.
“He has demonstrated maturity and conviction to make the decision to come to Forest Green. We can’t wait to work with him.”
He joins Brandan Cooper, Jordon Garrick, Amadou Bakayoko, Jamie Robson, Ross Doohan, Fiachra Pagel (out on loan), and Tyrese Omotoye already at the club this month.
