JUST IN: Loyalty is key as star defender signs on the dotted line

Highly-rated Udoka Godwin-Malife insisted the loyalty shown by Forest Green was pivotal in him penning a new two-year deal.

The 21-year-old defender proved a crucial part of Rovers’ run to the play-offs last season, nailing down his spot and playing more games than anyone else in the squad.

“I love this club.” he told fgrfc.co.uk

Godwin-Malife joined Rovers from Oxford City in January 2019 and cited the faith Rovers put in him as a mitigating factor on his decision to put pen to paper.

“This is where I got my first professional contract and everyone here has been good to me. I’ve been shown great loyalty and I felt I should repay that.”

Rich Hughes, Director of Football, revealed getting the deal over the line was a ‘priority’.

He said: “Dokes is a fantastic young player with so much potential. Getting him signed was a priority for us and we’re really pleased to have got it done so early – it puts us in a great place.”
