Just the tipple – a night of malts and music

At a unique event at Nailsworth Sub Rooms, Athila Roos from Holy Spirits, alongside Gavin Pond and Pam Brown from Practical Intelligence, hosted a Music & Malt pairing evening where they matched singular malt whiskies with different songs, played live on stage using a Pi Guitar which was hand carved and crafted at the workshop.

All of the ticket price of the evening went on to fund the charity and that very guitar played on stage is being donated to Creative Living Centre in Manchester – who, through music therapy – help children with difficult backgrounds and/or mental health issues.

The attendees were treated to four single malts (kindly donated by the distilleries themselves), some delicious food prepared by Pam, and four songs:

Nc’Nean Organic Single Malt from the Western Highlands was paired with the ethereal piece The Flower Duet, both creating a fluttery and Spring-led beginning to the evening; Nikka Taketsuru from Japan – a whisky named after the “godfather” of Japanese whisky – perfectly matched the gliding chords or Crystal Silence by Chick Corea

Ardnamurchan AD/Core, hailing from one of the most remote and breath taking areas in the Scottish Highlands was as lovely as Pink Moon by Nick Drake.

Finally, Bruichladdich’s Octomore 15.3 (the second peatiest ever whisky made to date) brought out the heavy-metal, insane vocals and even a didgeridoo with a spectacular rendition of AC/DC’s infamous Thunderstuck, bringing the event to a thunderous and lively closure that left the attendees clamouring for more.

Both businesses are excited about the prospect of hosting similar events in the future bringing together great music and drinks all in the name of a good cause.
