Controversial far-right commentator Katie Hopkins is set to bring her one-woman show to Stroud this week.
Hopkins will appear at the Old Convent, Beeches Green on Thursday, September 7, 6.30pm.
The former Apprentice candidate’s ‘Infectious’ tour is described as the “perfect place to think, speak and laugh freely”.
A protest against Hopkins’ visit to Stroud is being organised by Stroud District Community Solidarity, who issued a statement on social media: “We’re organising a protest against her “comedy show” in Stroud. We will be outside the venue (tickets are £20 and its apparently sold out) – trying to persuade people not to attend as they arrive, and making as much noise of possible once the event starts.”
Hopkins had more than a million followers on Twitter when she was booted off the site in 2020. Twitter said she was suspended for breaking rules on hate speech after sparking outrage with comments on race, religion and immigration.
She had been heavily criticised over remarks comparing migrants to cockroaches as well as claiming the photograph of a dead Syrian boy lying on a beach – which sparked a wave of compassion across Europe – was staged.
