Labour Party candidate Dr Simon Opher is the new MP for Stroud after he ousted Conservative Siobhan Baillie.
On a landslide night for the Labour Party, Dr Opher romped home with a hefty 25,607 votes to bring an end to Ms Baillie’s five-year reign, who claimed 14,219 votes. The result secured Labour a 11,388 majority.

A total of 55,452 ballot papers were counted with a 71 per cent turnout across the district.

To raucous Labour cheers, Stroud District Council Acting Returning Officer Kathy O’Leary revealed the result at Stratford Park Leisure Centre sports hall at an earlier than anticipated 1.35am on Friday.- the 11th quickest result in the country.
Reform candidate Chris Lester finish third with 6,329. Other results: Pete Kennedy (Green) 5,729, George James (Lib Dem) 2,913, Saskia Whitfield (Independent) 261 and Jason Hughes (Volt)163.
Dr Opher and his team toasted the victory with a celebration at the Prince Albert.
