The reason why a decline in canal water levels in Thrupp has been revealed.
Levels have dropped significantly, leading to concerns for wildlife.
However, Cotswold Canals Trust said: “We would like to thank members of the public who contacted us regarding the recent low water levels and stonework damage observed near Griffin Mill, Stanton’s Bridge, and Bowbridge.
“We can confirm that the issue is not the result of a leak. It has been traced to a damaged paddle mechanism on one of the lock gates, which is currently impacting water retention and flow in this section of the canal.
“Our dedicated volunteer teams are on site carrying out urgent repairs to stabilise water levels and restore the lock to proper working order as quickly as possible.
“We are very grateful for the vigilance and support of local residents and canal users. Your observations help us respond promptly and effectively. As ever, we extend our sincere thanks to our volunteers, whose tireless efforts remain vital to the ongoing care and preservation of the historic Cotswold Canals.”
