Letter to the Editor: last chance to buy shares in historic pub

MOST READ

Dear Editor,

We’ve had a lot of new followers over the last month or so and have seen a huge spike in engagement since our Nympsfield Community Pub event last weekend, where we were able to open the pub for the night.

As you are hopefully aware, we’ve been fighting hard to save The Rose & Crown over the past year, but it can’t and won’t be saved by Nympsfield residents alone. Our aim is to purchase and reopen the Rose & Crown Inn, Nympsfield, to recreate a welcoming pub at the heart of the village, owned by and run for the benefit of the community.

Time is running out to buy or top up your shares, the closing date for the share offer is January 31, 2025 and this date cannot be extended.

In May 2024, we received an independent valuation report on the pub which concluded that it can be run as a sustainable business. Following this, we developed a robust business plan and launched our Community Share Offer (which has been awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark) in September 2024 – with a goal of raising £400,000 to purchase and restore the Rose & Crown Inn.

To date, our Community Share Offer has raised over £216,000 from more than 300 investors. Alongside this we’ve been running fundraising events and applying for grants, which has raised almost an additional £30,000.

Last week we published an addendum to our share offer prospectus which sets out options for a revised purchase, renovation and reopening plan on the basis the share offers raises at least £250,000. The more we can raise through the share offer, the less costly the project will be going forward.

We’re confident that we can succeed; the overwhelming support for our fundraising events has shown clear demand for the pub to reopen – just last weekend over 150 people packed out the pub on Saturday evening for our “low-key” pop-up event!

But, we still need your help! In order to re-open the pub for good, we need everyone to invest what they can afford. Our Community Share Offer closes on 31 January, and this deadline cannot be extended so it’s important that we reach this next milestone of exceeding £250,000 so we are in a strong position to move the project forward.
